Technology plays a vital role in the success of any organization, including nonprofits. At DML, we are proud to extend the life of gently used computers by donating them to organizations that can put them to good use. This is one of the many ways we support mission-driven work in our community while reducing electronic waste.
When we come across computers that no longer meet the high-performance standards required by our clients, whether due to slightly lower specs or age, we don’t discard them. Instead, we take these desktops and laptops and prepare them for donation to local non-profits.
We frequently reach out to non-profit organizations and inquire if they are in need of computers. Once we’ve connected with an organization in need, we carefully prepare the equipment to ensure it’s ready to support their mission.
Here’s how we do it:
- Physical Cleaning: We thoroughly clean each machine of dust and debris, inside and out, to ensure it’s in the best possible condition.
- Component Evaluation: We inspect all hardware components to confirm everything is functioning correctly.
- Secure Data Removal & OS Installation: The hard drive is wiped clean, and a fresh version of Windows is installed.
- Driver and Update Installation: All necessary drivers and Windows updates are applied to optimize system performance.
- Final Testing: Each device undergoes a final round of testing to ensure it’s fully operational before being delivered.
By repurposing computers that might otherwise go unused, we help reduce the amount of electronic waste produced and provide essential tools to organizations doing impactful work.
At DML, we believe that reliable technology should never go to waste. Supporting our community is part of who we are, and we’re proud to play a small role in helping local organizations thrive.
